Canada’s New Front-of-Package (FOP) Nutrition Labeling Rules: How Priority Label Can Help Your Business Get Ready

The New Regulations

Starting January 1, 2026, Health Canada will require most prepackaged foods sold in Canada to include a Front-of-Package (FOP) nutrition symbol if they are high in sodium, sugars, or saturated fat. This standardized black-and-white magnifying glass icon must appear clearly on the front label so consumers can make healthier choices at a glance.

Manufacturers have until December 31, 2025 to transition their packaging. After that, non-compliance could lead to costly recalls, fines, and a loss of consumer trust.

What This Means for Food Businesses

If you produce, import, or distribute packaged foods in Canada, these new FOP rules directly impact your packaging. You’ll need to:

  • Review product nutrition levels to determine if an FOP symbol applies.

  • Redesign packaging layouts to meet size, placement, and bilingual (English/French) requirements.

  • Print updated labels that comply with Health Canada’s specifications before the enforcement deadline.

This can feel overwhelming—but that’s where Priority Label comes in.

How Priority Label Supports You

At Priority Label, we specialize in custom food and beverage labels that are compliant, durable, and designed to enhance your brand while meeting regulatory standards. With the new FOP requirements, our team helps you every step of the way:

Compliance Expertise – We stay on top of Health Canada’s labeling regulations. Our design team ensures your FOP symbol is the correct size, in the right position, and bilingual where required.

Custom Label Printing – Whether you need pressure-sensitive labels, shrink sleeves, or flexible packaging, we can integrate the FOP symbol seamlessly into your design without sacrificing your branding.

Small & Large Runs – From test batches to full-scale production, we offer flexible printing options so you can update labels gradually during the transition period.

Fast Turnaround – Deadlines are tight. We provide quick and reliable printing to help you stay ahead of the 2025 compliance cutoff.

Quality Finishing – Our labels are designed to last through handling, refrigeration, and distribution, maintaining a professional look on the shelf.

Why Act Now?

Waiting until late 2025 to make changes could result in supply chain bottlenecks, higher costs, and rushed compliance. By updating your packaging now, you’ll:

  • Avoid penalties and disruptions.

  • Build consumer trust with transparent labeling.

  • Get ahead of competitors still scrambling before the deadline.

Partner with Priority Label

Health Canada’s new FOP labeling is about more than compliance—it’s about helping Canadians make informed food choices. At Priority Label, we make sure your packaging meets every requirement without compromising your brand identity.
